Automatic Barriers

FAAC automatic barriers are designed to make vehicle access simple, secure, and easy to manage. Used across New Zealand in commercial sites, residential complexes, industrial facilities, and parking areas, these systems help control traffic flow while preventing unauthorised entry. From a single automatic gate barrier at a private site to large-scale automatic traffic barriers in busy environments, FAAC solutions are built to perform consistently. With boom arm options ranging from 2 to 8 metres and fast opening times, each automatic boom barrier is suited to both low and high-traffic conditions. Every barrier is manufactured using durable materials to handle daily use and changing weather. The result is a smooth, dependable access experience that works quietly in the background while keeping your site secure and organised.

FAAC automatic barrier arm gates are engineered with long-term reliability in mind. Designed to operate smoothly in demanding environments, they are a practical solution for sites that require regular vehicle movement without delays. Whether installed at a corporate entrance, toll gate, or public parking facility, each automatic barrier offers precise control and dependable performance. FAAC automatic gate barrier systems allow authorised vehicles to move in and out efficiently while maintaining clear access boundaries. This makes them ideal for managing safety, security, and traffic flow across a wide range of applications. As FAAC continues to grow in the automation space across NZ, we bring proven global technology adapted for local requirements. With FAAC, you are choosing an access solution that balances strong engineering with everyday usability, delivering automatic barriers that simply work when you need them to.

      technology

        Hydraulic

Hydraulic technology has been part of FAAC’s foundation since 1965, when we first introduced it to the automatic gate and gate automation industry. This long-standing expertise continues to shape FAAC systems used across New Zealand and global markets.

Key benefits of FAAC hydraulic technology include:

        • NExceptional durability: Designed for long service life, hydraulic systems can last up to four times longer than comparable electromechanical solutions.
        • NHigh force in a compact format: Delivers significantly greater power while maintaining a small footprint, ideal for heavy automatic gates.
        • NResistance to harsh conditions: Performs reliably in dusty, sandy, or coastal environments, making it well suited to demanding NZ sites.
        • NEnhanced safety control: Mechanical force adjustment through by-pass valves ensures stable and safe operation.
        • NEasy servicing: Straightforward maintenance and repair help reduce downtime and simplify long-term care.
        • NQuiet, smooth operation: Near-silent movement improves comfort for users and surrounding environments.
        • NReversible operation: Available with single or dual-direction reversibility for safe opening from either side.

        Electromechanical

Electromechanical automation focuses on simplicity and value, offering dependable gate automation systems for residential and light commercial applications. FAAC developed this technology to provide efficient access solutions without unnecessary complexity.

Key benefits of FAAC electromechanical systems include:

        • NStrong value for money: Reliable performance at a competitive price point, ideal for cost-conscious automatic gate installations.
        • NSimple mechanical design: Power is transferred through mechanical components, supporting consistent movement and easy servicing.
        • NProven engineering: Built on decades of FAAC experience and real-world use across global and NZ environments.
        • NWide product range: Options available for different gate types, site layouts, and special configurations where flexibility is required.

        HYbrid

Hybrid technology represents FAAC’s most advanced approach to automation, combining the strength of hydraulic systems with the precision of 24V DC control. This solution is designed for sites that require high performance, smooth operation, and modern safety compliance.

Key advantages of HYbrid technology include:

        • NTotal control: Force and speed can be adjusted directly via the electronic control board, supporting precise setup and safety regulation compliance.
        • NUltra-smooth movement: Soft acceleration and deceleration ramps provide fluid, controlled motion for improved user comfort.
        • NHigh efficiency: Reduced energy loss makes HYbrid systems suitable for frequent and intensive use.
        • NBattery backup support: Optional emergency batteries allow the automatic gate system to keep operating during power outages.

        AC Motors

FAAC’s automation systems were originally developed using alternating current (230V AC) motors, a technology that remains widely trusted today. In these motors, electrical current passing through the stator creates a rotating magnetic field, which drives the rotor and moves the motor shaft.

For single-phase installations, a capacitor is used to start and stabilise the motor’s rotation. To support safe operation, AC motors include integrated thermal protection that automatically cuts power if excessive load or overheating is detected.

While newer motor technologies are now available, AC motors continue to be used across many access automation applications. Their simple construction, proven durability, and consistent performance make them a reliable choice for long-term operation.

        DC Motors

DC motors operate using a brush system that powers the rotor, while the stator generates a constant magnetic field. This design allows for more flexible control compared to traditional AC motors.

Instead of built-in mechanical protection, FAAC DC systems rely on electronic thermal protection. This approach enables precise monitoring of operating conditions, helping maintain safe and reliable performance at all times.

One of the key benefits of DC motors is control. Speed and force can be finely adjusted, allowing for smooth acceleration and deceleration. They are also energy efficient and support battery backup, helping systems remain operational during power outages.
