AC Motors
FAAC’s early systems were powered by alternating current (230V AC) motors, a technology that remains widely used today. These motors generate a rotating magnetic field within the stator, driving the rotor and lifting mechanism.
In single-phase systems, a capacitor assists with start-up, while integrated thermal protection automatically shuts down the garage door motor if an overload is detected. This built-in safety helps protect both the motor and the door system.
AC motors continue to be used across garage door automation in NZ thanks to their durability, consistent performance, and suitability for applications where simplicity and reliability are key.
DC Motors
DC motors offer greater flexibility and control for modern garage door automation systems. The rotor is powered via a brush mechanism, while the stator generates a constant magnetic field to support smooth movement.
FAAC DC systems use electronic thermal protection rather than mechanical cut-offs, allowing the automatic garage door motor to be monitored and controlled more precisely. This helps ensure safe operation under varying loads.
By adjusting voltage and current, DC motors allow precise control of speed and force, making them ideal for home automation garage door applications.
