Whether you are upgrading an existing setup or installing new automatic sliding driveway gates, FAAC provides dependable solutions that blend seamlessly into a wide range of environments throughout New Zealand.

Choosing the right sliding gate motor depends on two key factors: the weight of the gate and how often it is used. FAAC offers a wide range of electric sliding gate solutions to suit everything from light residential gates to heavy-duty electric sliding gates operating in high-traffic locations. Each system is engineered to handle its workload comfortably, ensuring long-term reliability and smooth movement. Intelligent control systems help manage speed and force, supporting safe operation in everyday use. For properties across sliding gates in NZ, FAAC automation provides a practical, well-balanced approach to performance and durability. With proven global expertise and technology adapted for local conditions, FAAC sliding gate automation systems deliver access you can rely on.

      technology

        Hydraulic

Hydraulic technology has long been a defining feature of FAAC sliding gate automation systems. First introduced to the gate automation market by FAAC in 1965, this technology continues to be a preferred solution for demanding automatic sliding gates across NZ and global markets.

Using hydraulics in a sliding gate motor requires advanced engineering and extremely precise assembly. FAAC’s decades of experience allow hydraulic systems to deliver powerful, consistent movement even when operating large or heavy gate leaves.

This makes hydraulic solutions ideal for electric sliding gates used in high-traffic or harsh environments, where long-term reliability and smooth operation are essential.

Key benefits of FAAC hydraulic sliding gate automation include:

        • NExceptional durability: Service life up to four times longer than comparable electromechanical systems
        • NHigh power in a compact design: Delivers strong force while maintaining a small motor footprint
        • NSuperior environmental resistance: Performs reliably in dust, sand, salt air, and intensive-use conditions
        • NEnhanced safety: Mechanical force adjustment via by-pass valves ensures controlled gate movement
        • NSimple maintenance: Easy servicing helps reduce downtime
        • NQuiet, smooth motion: Near-silent operation improves comfort for residential and commercial sites
        • NReversible operation: Supports safe opening from either direction when required

        Electromechanical

Electromechanical technology is known for its straightforward design and dependable performance. FAAC developed these solutions to provide sliding gate automation systems that balance reliability with cost efficiency.

In electromechanical systems, power from the sliding gate motor is transferred to the gate leaf through mechanical components. This approach delivers steady, predictable movement and makes ongoing maintenance simple and accessible.

Electromechanical automation is well suited to residential and light commercial sliding gates in NZ, where consistent operation and value for money are key priorities.

Key benefits of FAAC electromechanical sliding gate systems include:

        • NExcellent value: High-performing automation at a competitive price point
        • NSimple design: User-friendly operation with straightforward servicing
        • NProven expertise: Built on decades of FAAC engineering and real-world application
        • NWide product range: Solutions available for different gate sizes, layouts, and usage requirements

        AC Motors

FAAC’s early automation solutions were powered by alternating current (230V AC) motors, a technology that continues to be widely used today. These motors operate by creating a rotating magnetic field within the stator, which drives the rotor and gate movement.

For single-phase installations, a capacitor assists with start-up, while integrated thermal protection automatically shuts the motor down in the event of overload. This built-in safety helps protect both the electric sliding gate and the motor itself.

AC motors remain popular across New Zealand for automatic sliding gates due to their durability, consistent output, and suitability for applications where reliability and simplicity are required.

        DC Motors

DC motors offer greater flexibility and control for modern sliding gate automation systems. In these motors, the rotor is powered via a brush system, while the stator produces a constant magnetic field to support smooth movement.

FAAC DC systems use electronic thermal protection rather than mechanical cut-offs, allowing operating conditions to be monitored and adjusted in real time. This helps ensure safe, reliable performance under varying loads.

By adjusting voltage and current, both speed and force can be precisely controlled, making DC motors ideal for automatic sliding driveway gates and higher-end residential or commercial applications.
